Everyone interesting in game development should know EA. It is a large company with many different locations across the country. They offer summer internships and also have a wonderful job search application. When you sign up for an account on the site you are given a resume section where you can update and adjust your resume and then post it to any job application. You will also receive updates when new jobs are available in your particular field. It is a very helpful site.

It also shows the "hot jobs" available at the time as well as their location. The job descriptions page show what programs you should be familiar with as well as what expertise you should have.

Austin Game Developers Conference
Provides many networking and business opportunities in the gaming industry. Programmers from around the world attend and share ideas with each other. There are many lectures and discussions on various gaming topics. -Chris Shaw

GDC Conference Associate Application
If you are selected as a conference associate, you get to exchange ~20 hours of volunteer work helping to make GDC run smoothly for free admission and the ability to shmooze with all kinds of awesome people. -Bill Nega
Onling Game Developers Conference
Like the name says, this conference is for online game companies to show what is new in the industry as well as provide networking oportunities. The conference has a volunteer program that grants full access to the show in exchange for part time work stuffing gift bags, ushering people, etc. Many big names in online gaming show up and it is a great conference for students interested in this field.

This is a project undertaken by UAT students, and probably the most high-profile game to come out of such a student project here at UAT. This is the home site for the game, where you can read up about and contact the project staff, the game itself, and talk on the forums to get a better idea of some of the things that have been done and perhaps could have been done under different circumstances. I think it would be a great springboard opportunity for anyone looking to get involved in a similar student-driven game project. - Steve Olender

One of the best books I've ever read dealing with programming in C++ while harnessing the power of DirectX. For this book you are required to have some experience in using the C++ language. It teaches you how to use DirectX at a basic level and expands into complicated algorithms. It also contains tons of sample code as well as a fully completed FPS game. - Kristopher Velez
