Web Design World - This conference is held 3 times a year (usually spring, summer, and winter) in different parts of the US. Looks to be an excellent conference for any budding Web Architecture student. However, it does seem a bit pricey, and it might be difficult for a student to afford to go. - Katie Lindner

Also has a few other conferences, and options for a virtual conference, but only if you've received some sort of code from one of their live conferences. As far as internships go for web design, you never know what type of places are looking for somebody to make and maintain websites. I was shocked to find the Oregon Zoo had a Web Design Internship.
